These are often stomach pains or spasms (sometimes to the point of being paralyzed), diarrhea or vomiting, a non-inflammatory infection of the small bowel, or inflammatory bowel disease infections. [7] [4] [1] [8]

It is usually with acute onset, usually a period of less than 10 days and self-limiting.

The main factors are poor nutrition in children. Diarrhea is common, and in May (but not always) followed by vomiting. The diarrhea usually causes frequent watery stools, whereas blood stained diarrhea may be indicative of bacterial colitis. In some cases, even when the stomach is empty, bile can be vomited.

A child with gastroenteritis may be lethargic, suffer from lack of sleep, or run a slight fever and signs of dehydration such as dry mucous membranes, tachycardia, decreased skin turgor, skin discoloration, spots soft hollow and sunken eyes and dark circles, poor perfusion and ultimately shock.
